Shanti Communication School
Shanti Communication School (SCS) is a C-School that aspires to become a force to reckon with in the coming few years, in terms of the quality of education afforded, but also in terms of the industry-readiness demonstrated by its curriculum. The School, an initiative of the reputed Chiripal Group in Ahmedabad, the college lays tremendous importance on management development programmes, research, writing, publications and consultancies for its faculty to grow and groom themselves. The pedagogy at SCS combines the very best of teaching methods, and internships are designed in a way that students are able to absorb the maximum that they can from the industry. All in all, SCS aspires to grow into an ideal destination for an all-encompassing, holistic education in communication management
A curriculum that transform Copywriters into Brand Managers
As the name suggests, the copywriting track teaches how to write the copy of advertisements. SCS, teaches that copywriters are storytellers and learn to use words to best solve business and market problems. Copywriters are taught to think conceptually before launching into the words they hold so dear. They go through two years of gruelling training, learning to begin with strategy and concept before crafting advertisements. They work closely with art directors to make ads that would run in the real world. The curriculum teaches that copywriters don’t just write headlines, tag lines and website descriptions, they must think through a business problem and solve it using the best strategy and thinking possible and prove themselves a capable brand managers of tomorrow.
A curriculum that is underpinned to knowledge of society and culture
Communication at SCS is beyond just theories, models, essays or rhetoric. SCS understands that communication is a lot more than just language and speech – it is also a mirror of the times we live in. For us, communication is a critical process, one that significantly influences the individual’s environment, and also helps him seek and find solutions to the problems plaguing it.
Consequently, at SCS, communication studies are seen as an activity that fosters awareness about communication choices, behaviour and technologies. The curriculum works towards inculcating a spirit of free, critical and independent thinking, as well as free-spirited, conducive and effective communication, which will go a long way in empowering the communication professionals of tomorrow, and will lead them to essential skills required in analyzing, interpreting and critiquing important communication problems.
A curriculum that is vertically specialized
The main objective at SCS is to administer a convergent, comprehensive and 360 degree Communication education, which ensures that our media trainees manage to effortlessly integrate themselves into whichever set-up they get into, irrespective of how much managerial aptitude is required of them.
A long term paid internship to make you learn by doing
At SCS, students are engaged in long term internship to learn by experience and apply their theoretical constructs to address business issues. Learning is reinforced by experience of success and failures. Students are guided by Industry Mentors and faculty members. At the end of internship, students are required to write a Grand Project to assimilate and collate their learning.
The SCS philosophy says that the approach to education is necessarily heterogeneous.
Naturally then, theoretical classroom sessions are just one of the many pillars of our approach. These are ably supplemented by:
The backbone for all of these is, of course, the curriculum designed by us after much thought, which strives all the time to groom you for moulds decided by the industry itself.
SCS insists that each of its courses inculcate in the students a spirit of leadership, entrepreneurship and team work. We are confident that in the times to come, we would have created communication professionals who’ll know exactly how to steer their respective organizations to success, aided by their management skills.
At SCS, we’re keen to ensure that our students turn efficient managers first, before everything else. This means that in order to ensure a managerial background for them, the entire first trimester of the course is dedicated to the basics of management, marketing, managerial economics, consumer behaviour, business environment, statistics, accountancy, and even the basics of psychology and sociology.
Later, as the students step into the second trimester, they begin to learn the basics of their respective specializations, while the third and fourth trimesters provide depth and perspective to their learning. Of course, in keeping with the philosophy of media convergence followed at SCS, every media trainee learns about every department of the domains of media and communication – however, over a period of time, he/she goes on to excel in any one specific area of his/her choice.
The core courses at SCS are as follows:
SCS offers its students a total of 36 compulsory courses, four electives and a six-month long internship in course of two years. The electives have been devised keeping in mind the specific skills that will be required of the students when they step into their respective communication careers. Besides, the list of electives devised at SCS does justice to each of the four broad specializations being offered at the institute – Journalism, Audio-Visual Communication, Advertising and Public Relations.
The electives at SCS are as follows:
Industry leaders and corporate executives are invited to complement classroom learning. Two objectives are kept in mind while inviting guest speakers – one, to expose students to management practices in various industries and two, to give them insights into various career options across industry sectors.

At SCS, students benefit from the guidance, tutelage and opinions of not one but several mentors. Teachers, parents, industry heads and even peers are expected to put in their take on the students, thereby giving them a 360-degree view of themselves and the world they’re about to inhabit. And to ensure that students are in the very best form possible to take on the world, they’re encouraged to attend yoga and vipassana sessions that are held with the objective of inculcating inner strength and resilience in them – two traits very vital in today’s times.
